You&#039;re probably right, of course my only experience as a pastor is at a small congregation.  I will say this, as a general rule from my observations at my home congregation, fieldwork congregations, and vicarage congregation, the smaller a congregation gets, the more this topic becomes an obsession.  It&#039;s understandable.  Often times it&#039;s out of budget concerns:  more people=more offering money; or so that we will feel more comfortable and not the weird church in town.  Pastors, including myself are not immune to this kind of thinking.  It is rare that I have heard the desire for larger numbers (and I&#039;m speaking not only in my congregation) come out of a concern for the salvation of people.</description>
